What’s a Green Smoothie?
A green smoothie is a super healthy blended drink made from fruit, greens, and a liquid, such as water or almond milk. They can also contain many add-in options like nuts, seeds, oats, nutritional powders, herbs, etc.
The simplest green smoothie recipes are 1/3 fruit, 1/3 greens, and 1/3 water. I recommend using at least one banana to sweeten the drink and to mask any undesired strong green taste.
The possibilities are endless, just experiment with sweet fruit and greens and or other veggies and then go from there until you find some recipes you really like.
I recommend starting with spinach for the green component as it is a sweeter green and blends well with sweet fruit. Add more bitter greens like kale little by little until you adjust to the taste. If you add a bitter green and it doesn’t taste good, add more bananas or dates to sweeten.
Be creative: you can use a multitude of fruits and veggies, many different nuts and seeds, oats, and green powders. You can also use specific nutritional powders or herbs if trying to achieve a specific medicinal affect.
